Malaysians Call in Witch Doctor to Find Missing Plane

Authorities in Malaysia have become so desperate to find missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 that they called in a local witchdoctor to help.

The Washington Post is reporting that a witchdoctor named Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP was summoned to Kuala Lumpur airport this week to use his shamanistic skills to find the missing plane. Among the talismans he brought for the “spiritual search” were vases, fiddles and coconuts.

“I think the plane is still in the air or has crashed into the sea,” he was quoted as saying by Free Malaysia Today.

The shaman had no more success than the rest of the world in finding the plane which disappeared early on the morning of March 8 and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Several theories have been tossed around in the last seven days, including that it crashed into the South China Sea, was hijacked and landed on a remote island somewhere, that it turned around and crashed somewhere in the Indian Ocean, and the latest – that it continued to fly for four or five more hours before disappearing.

Earlier this week, Chinese satellites appeared to show large floating debris in the area where the plane was last heard from but those leads were abandoned after searches turned up nothing.

Needless to say, relatives of the victims are furious at the Malaysian government, accusing them of inept handling of the tragedy and of hiding the truth. During a news conference earlier this week, family of the victims tossed water bottles at authorities and shouted, “Tell us the truth!”

Calling in a witchdoctor is not exactly a winning strategy for the beleaguered government.

One commenter who claimed to be Malaysian posted the following dismal remark on an article about the shaman that appeared in the South China Morning Post:

“I feel so ashamed as a Malaysian for the first time, not because of any wrongdoing on Malaysia’s part but for having a brainless prime minister.”
