Planned Parenthood Prez: When Life Begins is Irrelevant

Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS

In an awkward attempt to dismiss the core issue behind the abortion debate, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said she doesn’t believe “it’s really relevant” to consider when life begins when discussing the subject.

LifeSiteNews.com is reporting on an interview Richards gave to Fusion TV’s America with Jorge Ramos in which she was unable to answer the most fundamental of all questions about abortion:

“When does a human being become a human being?” Ramos asked.

“This is a question that I think will be debated through the centuries,” Richards replied.

“But for you, what’s that point?” Ramos pressed.

Appearing clearly shaken and stuttering a bit, Richards answered: “It is not something that I feel like is really part of this conversation. I think every woman needs to make her own decision.”

“But why would it be so controversial for you to say when do you think life starts?” Ramos asked.

“I don’t know that it’s controversial. I don’t know that it’s really relevant to the conversation,” Richards again insisted.

“I’m the mother of three children,” she finally said. “For me, life began when I delivered them.”

In other words, why should women care about the facts, about what science says, about what their hearts and bodies tell them is true – that the tiny being growing within them is alive from the moment of conception?

LifeSite compares Richards’ refusal to answer the question to when Barack Obama dodged the same question in 2008 when he told Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren that determining when life begins is “above my pay grade.”

As LifeSite confirms, and these two leaders are certainly aware of, the fact that life begins at conception is “settled science”, This means abortion is the deliberate taking of a human life, something neither Richards nor Obama and far too many other ideologues have the courage to admit aloud.

Thankfully, Americans “get it” and are not fooled by these weasel words. Instead, as they keep up with rapid advances in science, particularly in the area of ultra-sound technology, they can see for themselves that life begins at conception and are becoming increasingly pro-life.

Remember, the moment life begins has to be irrelevant to Cecile Richards – she’s making nearly a half-million dollars a year off the abortion industry,
