New Website Allows Consumers to Post Cancellation Notices

If you received a cancellation notice from your health insurance carrier, share it with the world by scanning it and sending it to this new website! You may have had the best life insurance for smokers or drunkards, but there are high chances that you’ll receive this notice from your carrier.

The Weekly Standard is reporting on a new website organized by a conservative organization known as the Independent Women’s Voice who are looking for “submissions” of scanned cancellation notices from people who have lost their insurance because of the Affordable Care Act.

As one letter on the site describes: “Due to changes handed down by the Federal Government and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, some of our plans do not meet the minimum requirements outlined by Health Care Reform. You have been identified as a member who might be impacted by these changes. In accordance with Florida statutes, Section 627.6571, we are providing you with the required 90-day notice of non-renewal of your Health Insurance Plan.”

Another letter from Humana explains to a customer that the premium for their current policy is jumping from $212 a month to $1,356 – which represents a 540 percent increase!

This letter represents the sticker shock that is coursing through consumers on the individual insurance market whose existing policies are being cancelled by the millions because the coverage standards don’t comply with the Affordable Care Act. Although it’s unclear how many of these plans are being cancelled, individual policy buyers comprise five percent of the total health care coverage market – or 14 million people.

Thus far, about 330,000 Floridians have lost their coverage from the state’s largest insurer. An estimated 130,000 policies have been cancelled in Kentucky, 140,000 in Minnesota and as many as 400,000 in Georgia. In California, about 900,000 people are expected to lose their existing plans.

Another round of cancellations is expected in March and again in May when insurers give consumers 90 days notice before canceling plans.
