The president of Chick-fil-A made a statement this past weekend in which he clarified that in spite of media reports to the contrary, his company made no concessions on their support for traditional marriage, which has prompted gay activist groups to sound a new alarm that the company is engaging in “hate.”

FoxNews.com is reporting that the new controversy erupted when Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy responded to media reports that his organization had struck up an agreement with Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno to stop funding groups that support traditional marriage in exchange for permission to open more stores in the windy city.

However, Cathy told Fox News host Mike Huckabee that the company “made no concessions and we remain true to who we are and who we have been.”

He added:  “There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago,” he said. “That is incorrect.”

The restaurant chain came under siege this summer when gay activists tried to initiate a boycott after discovering that the company donates money to groups that support traditional marriage. Officials in several major cities, including Chicago, vowed to block the company from expanding in their cities.

One of those officials, Chicago Alderman Joe Moreno, announced last week that Chick-fil-A had agreed to stop funding those organizations. The company experienced an immediate backlash from conservatives across the country who turned out in droves to support the company during the summer siege.

This prompted Cathy to release a new statement saying that their corporate giving had been mischaracterized.

“A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that God has entrusted to us,” the statement read. “Because of this commitment, Chick-fil-A’s giving heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.”

As a result, the homosexual website Queerty posted a new headline: “Dan Cathy Confirms Chick-fil-A Still in Business of Hate” indicating what could be the start of a new war against the restaurants.

Alderman Moreno also issued a new statement in which he called Chick-fil-A’s position “disturbing” and threatened to hold up on his plans to permit the restaurant to open a new store.

“Perhaps Mr. Cathy felt that he could make these public statements to Mike Huckabee because I had provided a letter of support for his restaurant to the city of Chicago earlier this week,” Moreno said in a statement. “I still need to introduce legislation to make the Chick-fil-A in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago a reality. I will wait to see what Mr. Cathy’s next public statement is, and reflect on that statement before moving forward with appropriate legislation.”
