Moms Organize Boycott of Controversial New TV Show

One Million Moms (OMM), a group of mothers affiliated with the American Family Association, is calling for a nationwide boycott of The New Normal, a sitcom scheduled to air this fall about a same-sex couple who hire a surrogate to have a child for them.

NBC’s website describes the program as: “These days, families come in all forms – single dads, double moms, sperm donors, egg donors, one-night-stand donors… It’s 2012 and anything goes. Bryan and David are a Los Angeles couple and they have it all. Well, almost. With successful careers and a committed and loving partnership, the one thing missing is a baby.”

The new show, which premieres on September 11 at 9:30 EST, features an unwed mother who offers to be a surrogate for Byran and David, claiming she needs the money to go to law school, a dream she postponed when she discovered she was pregnant with her now eight year-old daughter.

In the trailer, when asked by the couple if she has a problem with being a surrogate for two men, she says, “A family is a family; love is love.”

NBC is using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage,” says OMM. “These things are harmful to our society, and this program is damaging to our culture.”

It should come as no surprise that the openly homosexual Ryan Murphy is one of the executive producers and director of the show. Murphy’s other work includes American Horror Story, GLEE and Nip/Tuck.

“Millions of Americans strongly believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman,” OMM writes. “NBC’s The New Normal is attempting to desensitize America and our children. It is the opposite of how families are designed and created. You cannot recreate the biological wheel.”

Because sponsor boycotts have been so effective in the past, OMM is launching a campaign to make sure The New Normal is short-lived.
