Aurora Murders Are a Sin Problem, Not a Gun Problem

Speaking on Fox News, popular host and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said that America does not have a gun problem, it has a sin problem.

According to Newsmax, Huckabee made the forthright statement on his popular weekend show just a day after a gunman stormed into a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado and opened fire. Twelve people, including a six year-old girl, were killed while watching the new Batman movie. More than 50 were injured in the attack.

Throwing all political correctness aside, Huckabee refused to get pulled into the gun control debate being waged by politicians in the wake of the tragedy and questioned why other mass murders, such as the killing of millions of babies in the womb, don’t get the same headlines.

“We simply don’t know why any person would reach deep enough into the forces of darkness to decide to kill innocent people simply watching a movie,” said Huckabee, “ . . . (B)ut one million innocent and unborn babies die in their mother’s wombs each year by elective abortions and we pay scant attention to that.”

He went on to cite the more than 6,500 troops who lost their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the high rate of suicides in the U.S. which never get the same kind of continuous headlines.

“I’m not attempting to disparage the attention being given to the Aurora theatre shooting,” Huckabee said. “We should all pray for the victims,  their families and friends and offer our help for the physical and emotional recovery  of the survivors. But the victim of a murder in a convenience store robbery or a wife who dies at the hands of a serial abuser is also precious life.”

“Ultimately,” Huckabee concluded, “We don’t have a crime problem or a gun problem – or even a violence problem. What we have is a sin problem. And since we ordered God out of our schools and communities, the military and public conversations, you know, we really shouldn’t act so surprised when all hell breaks loose.”

6 Response to “Aurora Murders Are a Sin Problem, Not a Gun Problem

  1. Stricter car laws. 13 dead 10 injured. 5 killed in single car crash. Get rid of cars.

  2. Thanks for saying it like it is Governor Huckabee! What really is difficult for me to understand is in regards to abortion. Hundreds of innocent unborn children die each day, yet this is not an issue.

  3. I watched Gov. Mike Huckabee’s show – he hit the nail on the head. God bless him for speaking the truth.

  4. The more God is taken out of our lives, the more hectic and chaotic they become without him, for without God, we are nothing and we can DO nothing!

  5. Yes, of course it is a sin problem. However, I do not believe in “either/or” thinking in this matter:

I believe that people CAN own guns: pistols & rifles to use for hunting, self-protection, etc. Is it right to give the entire population access to weapons of war, such as military-style machine guns, like AK-47’s similar to what this dude had? To what end? I suggest we think deeply about this: When this dude so rapidly “dispatched” – injured/killed SEVENTY people in a movie theater – Had he had an ordinary gun, some of those people would be physically unhurt, and/or alive today.

We are fooling ourselves, I think, if we continue to maintain that access to high-powered military assault weapons makes us “free”. Keep the regular, legitimate guns; nix access to military assault weapons whose only use is to kill many, many people – and fast. We are more traumatized by the sheer scale of these mass murders than we would be by use of “regular” guns, even in a tragic situation like this.

    God help us all.
