ABC Cancels Anti-Christian GCB

In a major victory for Christians, ABC is decided to cancel it’s controversial sit-come, GCB, due to poor ratings.

The Christian Post is reporting that ABC will not renew the show for a second season, a decision made after its early high ratings tanked to record lows in April.

The show, which debuted in March, was based on the novel by Kim Gatlin entitled Good Christian B—–s and was based on a newly widowed woman who moved back to her hometown in an upscale neighborhood in Dallas, Texas. The show contained disturbing episodes showing Christian women misusing Bible verses to justify pettiness, claiming God “told” them to buy furs, making jokes about oral sex and claiming teenage girls should wear low-cut clothing so their cleavage can help the crosses about their necks “hang straight.”

The show even launched its own version of the 10 Commandments, such as “Thou Shalt Not Bear False Designer Labels” and “Thou Shalt Love a ‘C’ Cup Unless You Fit Into a ‘D’ Cup.”

Christian groups were outraged by the show.

Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of Movieguide and chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission accused ABC of “taking blasphemy against God, the Bible, God’s church and Jesus Christ to new levels of depravity.”

Parents Television Council president Tim Winter was equally furious about the offensive content of the show. “ABC’s decision is not only an affront to women, it blatantly attacks the world’s largest faith,” he said. “The ‘B-word’ is toxic and is used to degrade, abuse, harass, bully and humiliate women. And the ‘Christian’ element only adds insult to injury.”

The American Family Association launched a petition drive against the show and One Million Moms also called for a boycott of “GCB,” calling it “blasphemy at its worst!”

Whether or not this steady stream of complaints had something to do with the decision to cancel the show is not known.

However, the stars of the series were desperate to keep it alive, and were tweeting about the network’s impending decision even as ABC executives were meeting to decide the show’s fate.

“[ABC] is literally in a room in NY right now deciding our fate. #GCB #GCBSeason2 #PleaseLord,” cast member Jennifer Aspen wrote on Twitter Friday, and then announced, “I’m so sorry to tell you all that #GCB has been cancelled by ABC. #Heartbroken.”

  1. Calling GCB “anti Christian” is a mockery in itself. GCB is an accurate portrayal of millions of people in the real world calling themselves Christians. It’s funny because it’s true. I would happily take the faux Christians over the right wing scaremongering hate fuelled Christians any day.
