Breitbart Exposes Tasteless Pro-Abortion Bowl-A-Thon

Commentary by Susan Brinkmann, OCDS

Disregard for human life among the “pro-choice” population has stooped to new lows with the third annual National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon, with teams named “Kiss Our Uter-Ass” and ‘Bowlin’ for ‘Bortions” bowling for dollars to provide abortions to poor women.

According to a report by Dr. Susan Berry appearing on Breitbart.com, the National Network of Abortion Funds’ (NNAF) third annual National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon raised more than $400,000 “to make reproductive rights a reality for women who can’t afford to pay for an abortion,” says the web site for the event.  – and we want you to join us!” states the Web site for the event, which was held throughout the month of April.

“The Bowl-a-Thon is a nationwide series of local events that allow community members (you!) to captain your own bowling team, participate in a kickass national event – and raise money to help women and girls pay for abortions they couldn’t otherwise afford,” it says.

The organization encourages participation “[b]ecause you know that the legal right to abortion is meaningless if you can’t afford to pay for it.”

This event was far from your average friendly neighborhood fundraiser, however. It was as heartless as it was tasteless. No mention was ever made of the innocent lives that would be lost as a result of the money raised during the event. Instead, women cavorted around the lanes dressed as sexed-up nuns while others gleefully bowled while calling themselves the “Abowlifacients”

“If you choose to bowl instead of golf to support abortion, you can opt to be on one of many teams with names like, Bowlin’ for ‘Bortions, Kiss Our Uter-Ass, If Only Limbaugh’s Mom Used Birth Control, No Rosaries On My Ovaries, and teams that contain names for women’s private parts that only Bill Maher feels comfortable saying,” Dr. Berry writes in her hard-hitting piece.

Team names included “A Bunch of Queer People,” “Bowling for our Future!,” “Plan Bees,” “The Abortioneers,” “The Dude Aborts,” and “Republican Buttocks.”

Others chose to honor Planned Parenthood founder and eugenicist Margaret Sanger by calling themselves “Margaret Sanger’s Ball Bangers,” and “The Dirty Sangers.”

If that’s not bad enough, bowl-a-thonners were also given the opportunity to donate to the George Tiller Memorial Abortion Fund, named after the notorious late term abortionist who was gunned down in 2009. Participants were told they could donate to the fund to help women who were seeking “later abortion care” which is code for the abortion of a viable fetus.

“Lamenting a death and condemning a murder are one thing, but does NNAF really want to link their credibility to a man whose career was defined by performing late-term abortions for minors as young as ten and letting their rapes go unreported?” asks Calvin Freiburger writing for the pro-life group, Live Action.

“Tiller was murdered; therefore, we have to pretend he wasn’t a killer who was MIA when sexually abused children needed someone to stand up for them?”

Freiburg summarizes the sordid details of the event, saying they “help give us a clearer picture of the pro-choice psyche: rather than wanting abortions to be ‘safe,’ they lionize one of the industry’s most dangerous icons. Rather than wanting them ‘rare,’ they deem them a positive good through jovial names. Rather than respecting differing beliefs, they see organized religion as an enemy to be mocked. And rather than advocating sexual responsibility, their vulgarity indicates a flippant casualness regarding their view of sex . . . ”

The fact that any organization could raise this much money, in such a tasteless way, to pay for the killing of innocent life, says all anyone needs to know about the caliber of the pro-abortion movement in America.
