How Low Are We Willing to Sink for the Super Bowl?

A new poll conducted by Harris Interactive found that a shocking 15 percent of U.S. adults said they would rather miss the birth of their own child than miss an opportunity to attend the Super Bowl.

CNSNews.com is reporting that the new poll found that in order to watch the Super Bowl, 19 percent of respondents said they’d be willing to miss the funeral of a loved one. Another 20 percent are willing to skip the wedding of a close friend or family member and 23 percent would forgo a vacation rather than miss the biggest football game of the year.

According to the poll, more than half (56%) of adults say they plan to watch the game with men much more likely than women (67% vs. 46%) to do so.

Other statistics include:

— 47 percent of those who plan to watch the game say they are doing so “because they love NFL football and would never miss it.”

— 37 percent said they will watch the game primarily for the commercials with women more likely than men (44% vs. 31%) to watch for this reason.

— A third of respondents (33%) said they watch the game because of how much fun it is to go to a Super Bowl party.

— 41 percent of men and 21 percent woman say they bet on the game with 44 percent saying they won $100 or more – far less than the 92 percent who say they lost money betting on the game.

This year’s Super Bowl XLVI will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and will feature a matchup between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants.
