The New "Prom Queens": Transgendered and Homosexual Teens Crowned at Two U.S. High Schools

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Two U.S. high schools allowed their student body to elect boys as their prom queens this past weekend. According to the New York Daily News, the senior class at McFatter Technical High School in Davie, Florida, chose a transgendered teen named Andrew Viveros as their prom queen. The 17 year-old, who goes by the name Andii, said he was shocked and overjoyed by the choice, saying that it proved his classmates were embracing him for who he really is. "They called my name and I was in complete shock," he told The Sun Sentinel. "It's a big stepping stone. People can see it's finally OK to be who you are." The school also chose an openly homosexual student as prom king. Students at Blacksburg High School in Virginia also made an unconventional choice for prom queen when they elected the openly homosexual senior class secretary, Jake Boyer, as their prom queen. "I came out of the closet this year, and I already knew everyone at school was incredibly open about it," he told WDBJ-TV "This prom queen thing sort of became a manifestation of 'All right, this is who I am.' It's time to show off." Boyer attended the prom dressed as Lady Gaga. Although there is a growing divide in the mental health community about how to treat youth with gender disorders, therapy to orient them to their birth gender is still the prevailing method used and the one with the most successful outcomes. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com  The image is of Andrew Viveros as prom queen, taken from his Facebook page.
