Pro-Life Women Win Big in Midterms

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist As the dust continues to settle after last week's historic election, it is becoming clear that conservative pro-life women won big in states considered to be both "red" and "blue." LifeNews.com is reporting that even though a few pro-abortion stalwarts like Barbara Boxer were able to hold on to their jobs last week, the overall makeup of Congress is now tipping toward life, thanks to the successful campaigns of many conservative women. After last week's election, the percentage of pro-life women in the House of Representatives increased by 60 percent while the percentage of women who are pro-abortion decreased by 16 percent. These numbers include several pro-life women who are heading back to the House such as Michelle Bachmann in Minnesota, Marsha Blackburn and Diane Black of Tennessee, Virginia Foxx in North Carolina, Cynthia Lummis in Wyoming, Candice Miller in Michigan, Sue Myrick in North Carolina, Cathy McMorris Rogers in Washington, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen in Florida, and Jean Schmidt in Ohio. Newcomers to the House will be pro-life Congresswomen Kristi Noem of South Dakota, Jaime Herrera in Washington, Renee Elmers of North Carolina, and Sandy Adams of Florida. Conservative women also won big in gubernatorial races across the country. The popular Jan Brewer easily won re-election in Arizona while pro-life candidates won first-time races for governor in South Carolina (Nikki Haley), Oklahoma (Mary Falin), and New Mexico (Susana Martinez). Pro-life women now outnumber pro-abortion governors. There are only two remaining female pro-abortion governors - Bev Purdue in North Carolina and Christine Gregoire in Washington, both of whom are up for re-election in 2012." Women were not as lucky in the Senate with pro-life candidates Christine O'Donnell in Delaware and Sharron Angle in Nevada both losing their bids for Senate seats. That leaves only Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire who will become the lone pro-life woman in the Senate and will serve alongside abortion proponents Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA).  However, several pro-abortion women Senators lost their jobs including Sen. Robin Carnahan (D-MO) who lost to pro-life Roy Blunt' Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas lost her seat pro-life John Boozman; and Sen. Betsy Markey of Colorado lost to pro-life Cory Gardner. “We are especially pleased that conservative women will now represent so many of us in this country," said Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women of America to Life News.  "All of the slanderous and degrading accusations against these women have thankfully fallen on deaf ears and Americans recognize that these women are indeed the leaders of the next generation and we could not be more thrilled to work with them when they get to Washington. "The balance of power has shifted," she said, "and Americans have given the newly elected leaders a chance to undo the damage President Obama and the Democrats have done.” © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
