Comedy Central To Air Show Mocking Jesus

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist While being careful to censor every image of the Prophet Muhammad on its “South Park” show after receiving death threats, Comedy Central is fearless about a new animated series that will mock Jesus Christ. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Comedy Central is planning to launch “JC”, a half-hour show that depicts Jesus as wanting to escape the shadow of His “powerful but apathetic father” and live a regular life in New York City. In the show, God is preoccupied with playing video games while Jesus is “the ultimate fish out of water” who tries to adjust to city life. Kent Alterman, head of Comedy Central’s original programming, dismisses those who are offended by the show. “In general, comedy in purist form always makes some people uncomfortable," he says. Not everyone is buying it, especially not after the network's decision to censor the depiction of Mohammed on a recent “South Park” show after receiving death threats. Catholic League president Bill Donohue took note of the show’s blatant double standard. “These are the same executives who delight in bashing Christians while continuing to censor any depiction of Muhammad on ‘South Park’," he said in a May 6 press release. He also challenges Alterman’s excuse that “pure comedy” should make people uncomfortable. “Besides the fact that there is no end to the number of comedians who have made a huge name for themselves without ever offending anyone, what is even more relevant is the fact that Comedy Central has absolutely no interest in making Muslims feel uncomfortable.” Donohue suggests that those who would like to dialogue with Comedy Central's CEO, Doug Herzog, can reach him at 2049 Century Park East, Ste. 4000, Los Angeles, CA, 90067. “If you show up at Herzog's office, and he says he is feeling uneasy, let him know that having a fun time in its purest form always makes some people feel uncomfortable. He is sure to understand.” © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
