CBS is beingn pressured to not only drop a powerful pro-life ad scheduled to air during the Super Bowl, but to counter this message with ads the promote abortion or homosexuality.
The American Family Association (AFA) is reporting that CBS is coming under intense pressure from feminist groups because of its plans to air an ad about Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow whose mother chose to give him birth rather than abort him as her doctors were advising.
“CBS has come under withering fire from the left for its decision to air this ad,” said AFA president Tim Wildmon. “The hypocrisy here is thick. Abortion proponents claim to be all about choice, but they are outraged over an ad that features a woman exercising her right to choose life for her baby son.”
Marjorie Danenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, agrees and says the reason feminist groups such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) are making such a fuss over the ad is because they “are losing their grip as their pro-abortion position sinks in public opinion.”
The reaction reveals their “desperation to keep full information from women and rip apart a young man who has the courage of his convictions,” she says.
Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, agrees. “Why should it bother people who call themselves pro-choice if women watch Pam Tebow and her son Tim on Super Bowl Sunday and freely decide to choose life? Would fewer abortions be a bad thing?”
In response to criticisms from Jehmu Greene, president of the Women’s Media Group, that the ad is “divisive”, he adds: “As for the argument that the ad should not be shown because it is divisive, since when do we broadcast only things on which the American people all agree? In that case, the Super Bowl itself could not be broadcast.”
Unfortunately, in an interview with USA Today earlier this week, CBS spokesman Dana McClintock said CBS “will continue to consider responsibly produced ads from all groups for the few remaining spots in Super Bowl XLIV.” This could open the door to any number of anti-family ads such as those promoting abortion or homosexuality.
One ad currently under consideration is from a homosexual dating site named ManCrunch.com. The 30-second spot shows two men watching the game whose hands touch as they reach into a bowl of chips. Suddenly, the two start to kiss.
A representative for the dating site, which operates under the slogan “Where Many Many Many Men Come Out to Play,” told Fox News that they were informed on Jan. 22 by CBS that “the spot hadn’t been officially approved yet” by network standards.
The AFA says that “a message that promotes death or sexual deviancy is not the moral equivalent of a message that celebrates life, and CBS must be urged to reject any such advocacy ads.”
The group is encouraging people to contact CBS Chairman Les Moonves and CBS Entertainment President Nancy Tellem to encourage them to stand firm and refuse to cancel the Tebow ad or advocate for death and/or deviancy.
