Wannabe Reality Star Chooses Life

Josie Cunningham, the 23 year-old woman who shocked the world last week by claiming she was having an abortion to increase her chances of getting on the Big Brother reality show, had a sudden change of heart when she felt her baby kick for the first time.

LifeActionNews is reporting that Cunningham, a model and call girl, was 18 weeks pregnant when she told the UK Mirror last week: “"An abortion will further my career. This time next year I won’t have a baby. Instead, I’ll be famous, driving a bright pink Range Rover and buying a big house. Nothing will get in my way.”

Her crass announcement sparked outrage from the public as well as the producers of Big Brother who said they wouldn't choose Cunningham even if she did have an abortion. "How can we work with her — or pay her — if she admits having an abortion to achieve that? It would be a minefield," an unknown source at the show told the UK Sun.

That should have been enough to change her mind, but it wasn't. Cunningham claims that the day before the scheduled abortion was to take place, she felt her baby kick for the first time. It was a feeling she just couldn't get out of her head.

“I’d forgotten what the feeling was like," said the mother of two. "It was magical. It was like the baby was telling me not to go through with it."

Even though she had been trying to ignore many of the angry tweets and messages she had been receiving since making her announcement, Cunningham decided to take their advice and checked out photos of unborn children who were just 18 weeks old.

"What I saw horrified me," she said. “They looked like fully formed babies and I read there have been 66 cases where aborted fetuses have come out alive because their mothers left the decision so late. I lay in bed and sobbed. Doubts crept in.”

The following day, she was in the taxi driving to the clinic and felt physically sick. "I was shaking. When the driver told me we were a minute away I burst into tears. I wanted to throw myself out of the moving car to get away. I had my hands on my bump and I had the strongest feeling I couldn’t let anyone take my baby away.”

She decided to turn around and go home.

"Cunningham saw – and powerfully felt – the humanity of her own baby," writes Kristi Burton Brown for LiveAction. "Yet babies at 14 weeks, 12 weeks, eight weeks, and two weeks are just as human. It is more difficult to see them, and nearly impossible to feel them, but they are the same unique children at their earliest moments that they will be at 24 weeks, on their fifth birthdays, and when they drive away to college."

Cunningham's baby is due in October.
