Braving Cold and Snow, March for Life Goes On!

The depth of the commitment of pro-life Americans will be on display today for all the world to see as thousands of supporters converge on a frigid, snow-covered Capitol to march for life.

Only 10 hours ago, the Washington DC area was covered in a blinding snow storm that ushered in temperatures in the single digits, but that's not stopping busloads of pro-life supporters who are determined to take a stand for life.

And they will be welcomed by March organizers who have already announced that "The March will not be canceled due to inclement weather." However, they do add the warning: "Please dress appropriately by wearing many layers, and covering extremities!"

Thus far, the weather's biggest impact on the day's schedule has been to shorten some events and to cancel the 5K Run/Walk which will be rescheduled for another time.

The March for Life Rally will go on as planned at the National Mall beginning at 12 noon. Speakers include Jeanne Monahan, March for Life President, who will talk about adoption, the theme of this year's event.

"Adoption is a heroic decision for pregnant mothers who find themselves in a difficult situation," Monahan says.  "We want to eliminate the stigma of adoption and encourage women to pursue this noble option."

Other speakers include House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Democratic Representative Dan Lapinski. Also speaking will be Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), and Washington State Democratic Legislator Roger Freeman.

"These representatives have all courageously defended life during their time in office, and we could not be more thankful for that," Monahan said. "We are proud that they are able to join us to speak on the human rights issue of our time."

At 12:45, marchers will head to the U.S. Supreme Court where the fateful decision was made 41 years ago to legalize abortion on demand.

The Rose Dinner will be held at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill beginning at 6:00 p.m. this evening.

Even the Pope is joining this year's March. Earlier this morning he tweeted: "I join the March for Life in Washington with my prayers. May God help us respect all life, especially the most vulnerable.”

What began as a small demonstration decades ago has grown into the largest pro-life event in the world, drawing attention to what is the greatest human rights violation of our time - the state-sanctioned killing of the unborn.
