Walk 4 Choice Rallies Described as "Depressingly Small"

By Susan Brinkmann, OCDS Staff Journalist Last Saturday's much touted "Walk for Choice" rallies, which were designed to take place in various cities throughout the country to show support for Planned Parenthood in the face of national efforts to defund it, turned out to be poorly attended. Pro-life blogger Jill Stanek is reporting that the Walks, which took place on Feb. 26 in major cities such as New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Nashville, were so poorly attended the only way someone could say "more than 100 people" participated in most of them is "if they were counting people in dog years." In Minneapolis, only 15 people showed up and even less made it to the event in Phoenix. The Hawaii Walk was so poorly attended, Stanek wonders if Planned Parenthood didn't order its employees to attend the marches and at least make it look like someone showed up. The Washington DC Walk also disappointed with many complaints being registered on the Walk's Facebook page about poor advertising and how the turnout was "depressingly small." Rallies in Sante Fe, Gainesville, Florida and Youngstown, Ohio may not even have occurred due to lack of attendance. Seattle had one of the larger turnouts at around 100 people but the rally broke early because of the cold. "Namby Pambys for Choice would be more like it," Stanek comments. "They’d never survive even 15 minutes of the four hour March for Life held every January in DC." Chicago was probably the largest Walk with a few hundred in attendance, but an equally large pro-life group staged a counter-march that got almost as much press attention. Interestingly, the New York rally clashed with another Planned Parenthood march and instead of merging the two, the Walk was cancelled at the last minute, leading some to wonder if this was because of some dissention between the groups. "Pro-lifers have something the other side will never, never, ever, ever have," Stanek writes. "Passionate support for our cause in every pocket of America, come rain, snow, sleet, or dark of night." We will all see a ready example of this next week, she says, when the largest ever 40 Days for Life event will kick off in a record-breaking 247 cities across the U.S., Armenia, Australia, Belize, Canada, England, Georgia, Ireland, and Spain. © All Rights Reserved, Living His Life Abundantly®/Women of Grace®  http://www.womenofgrace.com
