New Speaker Doubts PP Can be Defunded

paul ryanThe new pro-life Speaker of the House of Representatives says he doesn’t want Planned Parenthood to get “one red cent” of taxpayer funding, but as long as President Obama and any other pro-abortion president resides in the Oval Office, the abortion giant will remain on the people’s payroll.

In an interview with CNN this weekend, the new House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) confirmed that he’d like nothing more than to see Planned Parenthood defunded.

"I don't think Planned Parenthood should get a red cent from the taxpayer. I've always believed that, even before these disgusting videos came out," Ryan said. "But I believe we need to do our oversight. We're just beginning to start a committee to investigate Planned Parenthood. That's important. So the special committee on Planned Parenthood, I think, should be in the driver's seat overseeing this process."

Several Congressional investigations are currently in progress and looking into the possibility of multiple violations of federal law in how Planned Parenthood procures and sells fetal baby parts. Also being investigated are cases of potential fraud and over-billing of Medicaid in various states. Investigators are also looking into how it may be more of an abortion business than a women’s health center, which could result in the loss of federal funds.

However, Ryan said we have to be realistic about the possibility of defunding Planned Parenthood under the current administration. President Obama has already made it quite clear that no matter what passes in the House and Senate, the president simply will not sign a bill that defunds the nation’s largest abortion provider.

In order to be a more effective Congress, Ryan said “ . . . [W]e also have to push issues where we can push issues, we have to speak truth to power. We have a president that isn't willing to listen, that isn't going to sign lots of our bills into law, we have a Senate that has a very difficult process when it comes to actually getting bills voted on, so knowing that we have those constraints, we have to operate within those constraints."

In order to be an effective opposition party, people must be told the truth about what can and cannot be done.

According to LifeNews, Speaker Ryan has a 100% pro-life voting record and has consistently voted to defund Planned Parenthood.

In the meantime, the investigations will continue and, hopefully, lay the ground work for a new pro-life president to finally strip public funding from Planned Parenthood.
